Some of the photographs on this website date back as far as the late 1970s, others are brand new. While the older pictures were captured on film, digital cameras have been used exclusively since about 2004.

This website works a bit like an art museum: there is a "permanent collection", represented by the galleries under the PHOTO GALLERIES menu, and there are frequently changing, themed "Current Exhibitions" on the HOME page. Hope you enjoy coming back often to browse, see what's new as the collection grows, and make these pictures come alive.
My philosophy is: a photo that nobody is looking at is nothing but a file!

THE GALLERIES

CURRENT EXHIBITION  - Signs:  A collection of signs that I stumbled upon over the years. Some give a glimpse into the past, some just make you wonder.

TRAVEL: A passion for traveling, both privately and as a touring musician, has taken me through practically all European countries, Egypt, North and Central America and the Caribbean. I usually try to avoid the typical tourist attractions and prefer to travel off the beaten track. I love exploring the back roads and enjoy getting lost on purpose in a strange city. It is the real life and the real people I'm looking for. Of course, some iconic landscapes simply cannot be ignored. When it comes to making pictures, nature is just the greatest architect of all. But I can often find a little detail in an "unspectacular" setting just as fascinating.

MUSIC: Music has always followed me since childhood, or vice versa, and it has been my profession for pretty much all of my adult life. I have had the pleasure of performing with a long list of legends in the Blues field and have spent most of my life on and behind stages and around other musicians. This also gives me access to vantage points sometimes, where even a press pass can't get you.

NATURE PAINTS: This series focuses on shapes and structures that sometimes appear to be the work of a painter, but were in fact created by nature. Details in plants, rock formations, landscapes or other natural forms can sometimes become a piece of art just by taking them out of their context. In other cases, applying certain photographic techniques, like altering the colors in the Antelope Canyon pictures, can emphasize and abstract the bizarre natural shapes and inspire the fantasy of the viewer.

PAST EXHIBITIONS: I have repeatedly been asked to not take the old pictures off the website whenever a new "Current Exhibition" is installed. So, here they are!
If an exhibition consists of travel photos, they will usually be added to the TRAVEL-Galleries.

- Sad Places: Some of the sadder sides of life. People have asked me, is all of that from where you live? Thankfully, no! These pictures were taken between 1978 and 2014 at different places in Europe, the USA and Egypt.

- Shadows: Light is what photographers usually concentrate on. But sometimes shadows can do wicked things...

- In The Street: Although I don't specialize in the field of Street Photography, it is a natural byproduct of my travels and of exploring foreign lands and cities with a camera around my neck. Here is a little collection of spontaneous snapshots, taken over the last 40 years. I know... some of the older pictures, taken on film and with a cheap camera, may not satisfy today's standards of digital sharpness. But it is really about capturing curious, touching or funny moments and situations of everyday life. Enjoy!

- Water:  In the fall of  2019 I participated in a photography exhibition, sponsored by the municipal waterworks in Vienna, Austria. The theme was -needless to say - "Water". Most of the pictures here were part of that exhibition.

- Doors:  If doors could talk, they would have a lot of stories to tell. May these doors from around the world inspire your fantasy.

- Trees:  As a nature lover, I am always fascinated by the mystique of trees and the twists and turns (sometimes quite literally) that they are going through during their long lifetime. They are a piece of history and the oldest living organisms on this earth. Actively protecting them is essential for the survival of mankind in this planet.

- The Corona Collection:  This is a collection of nature photographs that I ran as a daily series on my Facebook page during the first phase of the Covid 19 pandemic, in spring 2020. The idea was to provide my friends  with a little oasis of tranquility amidst an uncertain and stressful world. Because of their original use, these pics still have a copyright-watermark, which will be removed if you order an image.

Einige der Fotos auf dieser Website datieren bis in die späten 70er Jahre zurück, andere sind ganz aktuell. Während die älteren Bilder naturgemäss auf Film entstanden, wurden seit ca. 2004 ausschliesslich Digitalkameras verwendet.

Diese Website soll ein bisschen wie ein Kunstmuseum funktionieren: es gibt eine laufend erweiterte "ständige Ausstellung", die unter PHOTO GALLERIES zu finden ist, sowie wechselnde "Current Exhibitions" zu verschiedenen Themen auf der HOME-page. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn Sie regelmässig zu Besuch kommen, um zu sehen was es Neues gibt, und dadurch den Bildern ihr Leben einhauchen.
Denn meine Philosophie lautet: ein Foto, das nicht angesehen wird, bleibt nichts weiter als eine Datei.

DIE GALERIEN

CURRENT EXHIBITION - Signs:   Schilder, Fragmente von Botschaften, Graffiti, denen ich im Laufe der Jahre begegnet bin. Manche geben einen Einblick in die Geschichte, andere lassen einen rätselnd zurück.

TRAVEL: Meine Leidenschaft zu reisen, sowohl privat als auch auf Musiktourneen, hat mich im Laufe der Jahre durch fast alle Länder Europas, Ägypten, Nord- und Mittelamerika, sowie die Karibik geführt. Dabei versuche ich normalerweise, die typischen Touristenattraktionen zu vermeiden und mich eher abseits der Trampelpfade zu bewegen. Ich bevorzuge kleine Nebenstrecken und verirre mich oft absichtlich in einer fremden Stadt, um in die Gegenden zu kommen, wo das wirkliche Leben stattfindet. Natürlich kommt man als Fotograf auch an einigen spektakulären Landschaften nicht vorbei, die Natur ist einfach unübertrefflich! Aber es macht mir genausoviel Freude, interessante Details in einer alltäglichen Umgebung zu entdecken.

MUSIC: Musik war seit frühester Kindheit meine ständige Begleiterin, und mein Beruf seit dem Alter von 20. Ich hatte das Vergnügen, mit vielen Blueslegenden aufzutreten, und habe den Grossteil meines Lebens auf und hinter Bühnen und mit anderen Musikern zugebracht. Dadurch habe ich auch oft Zugang zu Blickwinkeln, die selbst den Pressefotografen verwehrt sind.

NATURE PAINTS: Diese Fotoserie konzentriert sich auf Formen und Linien, die manchmal wie gemalt wirken, jedoch natürlich entstanden sind. Manchmal können Details von Pflanzen, Felsformationen, Landschaften oder anderen natürlichen Formen, aus ihrem Zusammenhang gerissen, eine eigene ästhetische Qualität entwickeln. Oder die Anwendung von fotografischen Techniken (wie Farbumkehrung im Fall der Antelope Canyon Bilder) kann bizarre natürliche Umrisse betonen und abstrahieren, und so die Fantasie des Betrachters anregen.

PAST EXHIBITIONS: Ich wurde mehrfach gebeten, bei Erstellung einer neuen "Current Exhibition" die alten Bilder nicht gänzlich von der Website zu entfernen. Hier leben sie also nun weiter. Wenn es sich um Reisefotos handelt, werden sie in die TRAVEL-Galerien verschoben.

 - Sad Places: Einige der traurigeren Seiten des Lebens. Freunde fragten mich besorgt: "Sind all diese Bilder von wo Du jetzt lebst?"  Keine Sorge,  die Fotos stammen von 1978-2014, und aus verschiedenen Ländern Europas, den USA und Ägypten.

 - Shadows: "Wo viel Licht, da viel Schatten". Und der kann manchmal seltsame Dinge tun...

 - In The Street: Obwohl die "Street Photography" nicht mein Spezialgebiet ist, ist sie doch ein Nebenprodukt meiner Reisen, auf denen ich, mit Kamera bewaffnet, fremde Länder und Städte erforsche. Hier also eine kleine Sammlung von spontanen Schnappschüssen, die während der letzten 40 Jahre entstanden sind. Mir ist bewusst, dass einige der älteren Aufnahmen, mit billigen Kameras auf Film gebannt, nicht mehr ganz den heutigen Ansprüchen an digitale Schärfe genügen. Es geht hier aber wirklich nur um das Festhalten von Alltagssituationen, seien sie berührend, manchmal rätselhaft oder lustig. Viel Vergnügen!

 - Water:  Im Herbst 2019 war ich an einer Gruppen-Photoausstellung in Wien beteiligt, die von den Wiener Wasserwerken gesponsert wurde. Das Thema war -wie nicht anders zu erwarten- "Wasser".  Die Meisten der Bilder hier waren Teil dieser Ausstellung.

 - Doors: Wenn Türen sprechen könnten, hätten sie eine Menge Geschichten zu erzählen. Mögen diese Türen aus vielen Teilen der Welt Ihre Fantasie beflügeln.

- Trees: Als Naturliebhaber bin ich stets aufs Neue fasziniert von der Vielfalt und Aesthetik der Bäume und der mystischen Energie, die von ihnen ausgeht. Sie erzählen ein Stück Geschichte und sind die ältesten lebenden Organismen auf unserer Erde. Nur durch ihren aktiven Schutz ist ein Fortbestand der Menschheit auf diesem Planeten möglich.

 - The Corona Collection:  Zu Beginn der Covid 19 Pandemie, im Frühjahr 2020, startete ich diese tägliche Serie von Naturaufnahmen auf meiner Facebook-Seite. Die Idee war, meinen Freunden in dieser stressreichen Zeit eine kleine Oase der Beschaulichkeit zu bieten. Diese Serie hat wegen ihrer Entstehungsgeschichte ausnahmsweise einen Copyright-Vermerk, wird aber bei Photobestellungen natürlich ohne diesen geliefert.
